HISTORY

The original cottage was constructed c1761 for Earl Cowper's gamekeeper. In 1854, the left hand side was added to the building. In 1926, the centre part was rebuilt and in 1992, the right hand side was added. The building was totally renovated by Norris of Hertford. Part of the original cottage including the fireplace still exists as does a well which is now covered. When Tewin Wood was used as a hunting area for Earl Cowper, Keeper Cottage was probably the only building in the wood.

VENDOR COMMENTS

Living in Tewin Wood for the past 26 years has been such a great pleasure for our family. We bought Keepers Cottage in 1991 when it was in need of renovation and immediately set about rebuilding and extending the property in an architecturally sympathetic way. Completed in February 1992, the final result achieved was very satisfying indeed and proved to be the ideal family house for us in a very unique and beautiful environment.
